I wanted to share something today...
today is a very sad day.
sad because of ignorance, hate, pain...
one year ago, on this very day at 06:29 Hamas ignited the most horrific attack on Israel ever seen... yesterday, to start the one year grieving, we had a public talk here on our Kibbutz by a member who is a high ranking officer in the IDF in a very special unit called "locating missing person". on that horrible day one year ago, his unit which is a tiny unit had SO much work cut out for them in seconds as thousands of people went missing... some in the Nova festival, some on the road, some in the settlements...
his descriptions of the scenes he had to see, smell, touch... wow... some of his words stuck in my head... and all he wanted was to share with us what it feels like, how it looks like, what they went through in those first hours, days, weeks... what it looks like when so many body parts from mutilation are scattered around, how do you know to whom they belong? so many raped girls... how do you locate a missing person that has no head? how do you take DNA from a melted body that was burned at over 700 degrees? how can you tell who is who when they roped them up together and set fire to them? they all fused together...
and so much more...
so much more... I wanted to hug him.
what a brave man. one of so many brave man who are still fighting, still PTSD... still going on trying to find all those missing persons... from 4200 on that morning, he is now down to 4. they do a fantastic job!
wow.
war is insanely harsh when you are the one picking up the pieces left by terrorists who just "went to town" on whoever they could. that day will never be forgotten till 2 or 3 generations have gone by.
here are some interesting facts on the numbers of rockets, missiles, drones and mortar fire on Israel in the past 12 months, when you read these numbers, do your very best to FEEL how it feels like to be bombed and rocketed... how does it feel when sirens go off telling you that you better run....
here are the numbers:
13,200 launches from Gaza 12,400 launches from Lebanon 400 launches from Iran 60 launches from Syria 180 launches from Yemen
total launches till now: 26,240
war is terrible. here is a clip from our home of rockets falling in the valley below us. you can see one interceptor hit on the top left side of the screen and you can hear 4 more booms of the rockets hitting the valley. some people got injured and some damage was done to cars and homes.
why they did not intercept those 4 remaining rockets is a mystery :-)
